The NQ Warriors pulled on their boots to take part in the Bindal Sharks All Blacks Carnival in Townsville, with Squadron Energy standing behind the First Nations side.

The rugby league carnival, which was held from October 11 to 13, saw teams compete, bond, celebrate cultural ties and live out the community spirit.

The Clarke Creek Wind Farm Stage 2 team sponsored the NQ Warriors, who played in the carnival to highlight the importance of suicide awareness.

Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15 to 44 and 75 per cent of people who die by suicide are men, according to Lifeline Australia.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people die by suicide at rates two-and-a-half times higher than non-Indigenous Australians.

The NQ Warriors were victorious in their first three games in the carnival against the Walkabouts, the Northern Crocs and the Greg Sutherland Memorial.

The team narrowly missed out on the grand final after losing to the Apudthama Brothers.

However, the Warriors came away from the competition with their heads held high. Their strong bond, pride and support from the sidelines brought an extraordinarily positive attitude.

The team’s efforts to bring awareness to suicide gave a much deeper meaning to their run in the competition.

The NQ Warriors will be eyeing the Dreamtime Knockout in October next year – a major interstate Indigenous rugby league carnival.
