Squadron Energy has received approval for its Development Application (DA) to build temporary workers' accommodation in Dubbo, marking a major milestone for the project that will provide workers on renewable energy projects close to Dubbo with a place to stay.

Work on the approved accommodation village, which will be on a 10-hectare parcel of council-owned land, about 5 km from Dubbo’s CBD, is expected to start in mid-2026.

The site will host up to 400 workers during the construction phase of Spicer's Creek Wind Farm, which comprises up to 117 wind turbines and battery energy storage on Wiradjuri Country, west of Gulgong and northeast of Wellington.

Designed to minimise pressure on Dubbo’s existing housing market, the village will feature modular, prefabricated buildings and essential amenities including a dining hall, laundries, gym, outdoor recreation spaces and relaxation areas.

Squadron has been supported by local firm Barnson on both the planning proposal and development application. Our commitment to local content will continue through the construction and operations phases of the project. The project reflects the company’s commitment to leaving a legacy in the communities where it operates.

Squadron has worked with key Dubbo Regional Council staff for two years to secure a site and gain approval for the village that not only supports the workforce but also contributes to the region’s long-term growth. This project will leave behind legacy infrastructure like water, power, sewer and stormwater which will assist the council with their future plan for a residential subdivision on the site.

The project will add an estimated $250 million in value to the local economy each year, and, once construction is complete, the site will be returned to the Council with improved access to services for future residential development.

In approving the development application, the Western Region Planning Panel commented on its determination stating, “the panel noted the positive social and economic benefits for Dubbo and broader community likely to result from the development.”
