Squadron Energy welcomes the Productivity Commission’s interim report Investing in cheaper, cleaner energy and the net zero transformation and supports its focus on accelerating Australia’s clean energy transition through practical, productivity-enhancing reforms at the lowest possible cost.
We need to keep the renewables pipeline moving to ensure we can replace our ageing energy system, keep the lights on and ultimately drive prices down for households and businesses.
Doing that will also support skills development, keep people in renewables jobs and provide investor confidence.
As Australia’s leading renewable energy company, we strongly endorse the Commission’s call for:
- streamlined approvals for clean energy infrastructure, which are essential to unlocking investment and delivering projects at scale and speed;
- consistent and market-based incentives that drive emissions reductions across electricity, transport, and heavy industry, while ensuring affordability and reliability for consumers;
- a resilience-rating system for housing, which aligns with our broader commitment to community resilience and climate adaptation.
Squadron Energy has long advocated for policy settings that reflect the true value of firmed renewables and enables investment in generation storage, grid upgrades, and regional development. This aligns with the Commission’s recommendation to replace the Renewable Energy Target and Capacity Investment Scheme with more effective market mechanisms post-2030.
Additionally, Squadron strongly supports the deployment of a market-based mechanism to give effect to science-aligned targets of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
We acknowledge the Productivity Commission’s invitation for submissions and look forward to contributing further insights from our portfolio of projects and community partnerships.
Squadron Energy remains committed to working with government, industry, and regional communities to deliver a clean, reliable, and affordable energy future for all Australians.
