Squadron Energy, Australia’s leading renewable energy company, and iconic Australian hatmaker Akubra have joined forces to support Valkyrie School in Central Queensland, helping keep the school’s long-standing tradition of including Akubra hats in its student uniform.

Together, Squadron and Akubra provided funding that enabled Valkyrie School to continue its Akubra hat tradition at no cost

Valkyrie State School Acting Principal Simon Kochevatkin said Akubra hats have been part of Valkyrie’s formal uniform for over 30 years, so it always fills us with great pride to wear them when representing our school.

“These quality Australian made hats signify the strong connection to our farming community, with all students involved in cattle production.

“Without the generous sponsorship from Squadron Energy, purchase of these hats would not have been possible and funds for allocated projects would need to have been used instead.

“We are very fortunate that Squadron Energy provide grants which allow for these opportunities to occur, and as a school and community, we graciously thank them from the bottom of our hearts.”

Squadron Energy’s Community Relations Advisor, Patrice Willoughby said the team were proud to help keep a tradition that is a cherished part of the school’s identity.

"We always want to be supporting our local communities and this is playing just a small part in preserving a bit of regional heritage at the school and ensures every student can wear their Akubra with pride,” Ms Willoughby said.

“Seeing young Australians wear an Akubra hat reminds us of the role that we play in everyday lives, of everyday Australians, while also playing a vital role in promoting sun safety for young Aussies growing up under the harsh outback sun,” Akubra CEO Natalie Culina said.

The initiative reflects both companies’ commitment to supporting rural communities and providing a long term legacy for students in regional Australia.
